Levert Freres Rose Brut Cremant

IMG_3027.JPG

Levert Freres Cremant de Bourgogne is a sparkling brut rose from Burgundy, France. It is 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Gamay. It is aged on lees for at least 24 months. Lees are the dead yeast cells leftover from fermentation, and they impart extra flavor to wines that age longer before they are removed. In this case, the lees add a toasty, charred bread flavor that adds a very pleasant bitterness to the wine. I also picked up on a bit of blackberry bitter with lots of fruit flavor. This cremant has medium acidity, fine bubbles that dissipate quickly on the tongue and a long, flavorful finish.
