Nina Layne to Dance in Place of Caroline James at the
Beginning of BT’s 2019-2020 Season
The lovely and talented Nina Layne will cover the roles of “Odette/Odile” in Swan Lakeat the beginning of our 2019-2020 Ballet Season in place of Caroline James. Layne will also perform as the “Sugar Plum Fairy” for the beginning of our run of The Nutcracker.
As a company, we are pleased to announce that Caroline James, Principle Dancer, is expecting her first child. She and her husband, Jeremy, anticipate a happy, healthy child to arrive mid-October.
Mrs. James will perform in this season’s May performances, but audiences will be introduced to a new Prima Ballerina at the beginning of next season who will dance the lead roles in the first few productions until James is ready to return. Nina Layne is thrilled to accept the challenge with the support of James and the rest of the Company.
“Though we will certainly miss James’ stage presence and unmatched fluidity of movement, Layne will provide a refreshing change for audiences and will capture the personalities of her characters in a new way. Though we will be using the traditional costumes, music and choreography from Swan Lakeand The Nutcracker, Layne will lend her own interpretations to the roles to make the experience wildly revitalizing,” said Artistic Director, Dan Haven.
James and Haven will be working closely with Layne to prepare her for next season’s opening shows. Layne, already a crowd favorite, will be sure to leave a generous awe in the minds of every audience just as James has done for several seasons.
